Gynecology is the medical practice responsible for the health of the  feminine reproductive system.

Gynecological appointments should start after a girl´s first period (menstrual cycle) and prior to the beginning of her sex life. Its objective is that the woman learns about her body and understands the various changes that happen in each phase of the feminine life, as well as to provide information about intimate hygiene, menstrual cycle, contraceptives and pregnancy, allowing the prevention of diseases and of unwanted pregnancy.

The appointments should happen periodically, at least once a year, in order to allow primary prevention and early diagnosis of certain diseases like cervical and breast cancer.
