The term “obstetrics” comes from the Latin word “obstetrix", which is derived from the verb “obstare" (to be by one’s side). The obstetrician is the doctor who specializes in following up the pregnancy and childbirth.
Prenatal care should start as soon as the woman finds out about her pregnancy. During the visits, all questions about pregnancy and delivery will be answered and exams requested to ensure the health of mom and baby.
The goals of prenatal care are to properly guide the pregnant woman, prevent, diagnose and treat disease that might arise. The timing of the appointments will be set according to the need of each individual patient.
